ObjectWeb consortium welcomes MandrakeSoft as a new member
Wednesday January 21 2004
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Pasadena, CA; Paris, France; January 21st, 2004 - MandrakeSoft today announced its membership in ObjectWeb, an international consortium which promotes the development of open-source middleware.
ObjectWeb is an independent non-profit organization which federates middleware projects such as JOnAS. JOnAS - an Open Source implementation of the J2EE(tm) specification - provides the foundation for high-quality, business-critical distributed applications. JOnAS is a collaborative effort of the ObjectWeb community; its development is conducted by highly skilled professionals from software companies and research centers throughout the world.
Jean-Pierre Laisné, Chairman of ObjectWeb's Board of Directors, states: "Beginning with Mandrake Linux 9.1, and now with ProSuite 9.2, Mandrake was the first distribution to include JOnAS. I would like to salute this dynamism. The availability of JOnAS in enterprise distributions announces the beginning of a new era for professional J2EE. Business users of Java middleware will now have access to off-the-shelf solutions of industrial quality including the entire Open Source stack -- from the operating system to the application server".
"MandrakeSoft believes that Middleware is a crucial technology that many of our key customers and users can benefit greatly from. We view the work of the ObjectWeb consortium as essential in this area. MandrakeSoft is proud to become an active new member of the consortium.", said François Bancilhon, CEO of MandrakeSoft.
As part of its strategy of fulfilling industry demand for distributed applications and solutions, MandrakeSoft became a member of ObjectWeb in January 2004.
"The involvement of a major Linux distributor, such as MandrakeSoft, blends perfectly with ObjectWeb's position in the world of professional middleware. We are extremely happy to welcome MandrakeSoft as a new member", said Laisné.
The JOnAS application server already ships with Mandrake Linux corporate products and is the standard J2EE(tm) implementation supported by MandrakeSoft.
