i want to buy myself a new laptop and i wanted to know from ur experience which is the most compitable brands with the mandriva linux system.
and which ones are making the most conflicts or problems.
apple Mac, lenovo, Acer, HP, Dell or fujitsu

One of the channels on my amplifier has gone, so untill i can get a replacement id like to change the sound settings from `stereo` to `mono`. Ive looked through the mcc ect, but cant find the options anywhere... Can it be done?

OpenOffice.org is an excellent software, but its compatibility with Microsoft Office(especially Word) is worrying. The Writer of OpenOffice.org can display the text doc of Microsoft Word well, but the forms which are designed by Word are seriously out of the layout. It is inconvenient to exchange docs with others.
Which Office software do you use? I believe in this world there are many excellent Office softwares which can take the place of Microsoft Office.

I'm wondering, if it will be possible that one day we will get a proprietary graphics card driver that is configured correctly.

While setting up a machine with an ATI Radeon card in it I responded to the prompt "there is a proprietary driver for this card, do you want to use it?" with usi it.

So we get to the final set up screen and I go into the Graphics card settings and select test. My screen goes blank and never comes back. So I'm forced to shut the computer down and restart the installation.

No I'm not interested in editing config files while working at the command line.

If you didn't notice I think the American News
services pulled out all stops in their reporting
of the tragedy of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.
CNN et al used everything in their bag of tech
tricks to enhance reporting of the story and all
the multimedia along with it.

I bounced back and forth between WinBlows XP ( up to date )
and Mandy 2007.1 ( latest and greatest updates )
and I gotta tell ya Mandy did all the tricks better.
Videos, Flash and Java all mixed together. The browser
never went down nor froze.

My notebook computer's graphics card is NVIDIA Geforce Go 6400, and Mandriva Linux 2007 can recognize this card and install the driver. So I think Mandriva Linux is a very good Linux!

I have the following hardware config:

Processor:AMD Athlon 3200+ 64 bit
Motherboard:MSI RS 482 M4 L Motherboard
Sound Card: Realtek ALC 880 8 channel
Network-Ethernet Card: Realtek 8100C
Onboard Graphics: ATI Radeon XPress 200

I wish to install Mandriva Spring 2007 package. I want to know wheather the package will have drivers for my hardware or I will have to manually install them afterwards. I am in a Local Area Network (100 MBps).

Will the updates or upgrades work with proxy server because my internet conection is through proxy servers.

I am a newbie and had lot of troubles with Fedora Core 7 , so want to be sure ....someone please help

Can I sell, record CD/DVDs and redistribute PowerPack? With new PCs, like OEM and no OEM? I want to do this as free (no cost) promotion, but want to distribute PowerPack with other PC resellers. May be the question is stupid, but in our country (Bulgaria) the police not understand what is joke and what is free software. The PowerPack includes many commercial software packages, but I do not understand the licenses.

Does Mandriva support printing through firewire?

My Epson Stylus Photo R1800 works when connected through USB, but as USB is only version 1.1 on my PC, I have 4 spare firewire ports and the printer has a firewire connection I'd like to use that instead.

I removed the USB printer and then connected the printer to a firewire port, but it does not get discovered. Any tweaks I need to do or is this not likely to work?

I managed to talk my yacht design program writer out of an object file this file was written on Red Hat 9 it won't open on any of my equipment. I was thinking that if I 'make' it on my 64-bit computer the result will be a 64-bit prog. I am a yacht designer NOT a programmer so help would be appreciated.

When I try to play a DVD on xine and km players it wont work. It says that it is not ''running".

As has been discussed here before, an updated madwifi was released a few weeks back which includes a security fix among other changes. We now have a candidate update available in 2007 Spring /non-free/testing.

Please, if you have a card that uses the madwifi driver (cards with Atheros chipsets), help us test out this updated version. Follow the instructions at http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Basic_tasks/Installing_and_removing_software#Advanced_use:_Backports_and_candidate_updates to enable the /non-free/testing repository, and then update all madwifi-related packages. Make sure that dkms-madwifi is included and you have the appropriate kernel-source (or -devel, if you're using kernel-tmb) for your kernel installed. Then reboot and let me know if the new driver works. Thanks a lot!

Ok i love mandriva it is a full OS that works sure i had sound probs but lets just tack that up as newbie crap. Today i have another newb problem.

Hpw do i change the desktop picture. I have tried with right clicking and make desktop BG but it just dont work i am sure i need to use root priveledges but don't know exactly how to go about doing this.

From the recent newsletter:
