Removing built-in wireless driver for ndiswrapper (General Hardware...)

Sat, 11/24/2007 - 16:00
I've got a Dell Latitude D810 laptop with a Broadcom BCM4318 wireless chip in it. I first tried configuring it with a built-in driver, but that didn't work. I switched to ndiswrapper, and that worked. However, the change isn't "sticking" - at each boot it appears to be trying to load the built-in driver, I get a series of messages about trying to extract microcode from the firmware. It doesn't then use the ndiswrapper driver until I go back into draknetcenter and change it.

Any clues how I can get this thing to quit trying that built-in driver and always use ndiswrapper?

NFS Connection (Community Chat...)

Sat, 11/24/2007 - 14:00
I know this is probably a tired sugject on this forum, but I don't seem to see a straight answer.

I have connected two Spring 2007 computers and am trying to get them to see each other. I have gone to MCC>Mount Points>share connections and clicked OK to NFS and Samba. On same section I tried to "Set NFS Mount Point" but nothing comes up
Also, On Konqueror>Navigational Panel>Systems>Remote places nothing comes up.

I know this is a rather simple procedure, but I am not seeing it.
Any help????

USB Soundcard problem - ALSA just won't realize i've got one (Sound...)

Sat, 11/24/2007 - 10:00
Yet another problem with an USB Soundcard
I've switched from ubuntu 7.10 to mandriva 2008 and my usb no-name sounddevice just stopped working. i didn't change anything on the hardware so there has to be something wrong with my mandriva config. Problem is that alsa doesn't find it. the mandriva config-center keeps saying that there is an unknown device and that it is called usb-audio, but i cannot make alsa use it.here are my outputs (all made as root):

[code:1:f4c123aef9]aplay -l
aplay: device_list:205: no soundcards found...
[/code:1:f4c123aef9]
the mandriva controlcenter (hardware):

and when i try to change something in the KDE controlcenter:
[code:1:f4c123aef9]
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.[/code:1:f4c123aef9]

the lsmod | grep snd doesn't return anything until i load the snd-usb-audio manually:

[code:1:f4c123aef9]snd_usb_audio 76160 0
snd_pcm 68996 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_timer 19460 1 snd_pcm

[/code:1:f4c123aef9]

I've moved the snd-usb-audio file from /etc/modprobe.d/... to my home directory which was a solution i found here with a filed bug. but that didn't change anything.

i really hope that somebody is able to help me. i tried in several forums but nothing useful came out.

thanks so far.

Printerdrake dosn't work (Printers and Scanners...)

Sat, 11/24/2007 - 06:00
Whenever a usb printer is plugged in printerdrake pops up and asks if you want the printer installed but it won't let me click on anything in the box and won't go away until I log off.
