FON signs with Mandriva
Monday July 24 2006
FON has just finalized a partnership with Mandriva. The French Linux and open source software distributor will develop for FON a Linux application allowing users easily to install the FON firmware on any compatible WiFi router.
Users will only have to launch the application in order to 'flash' their router with the latest version of the firmware and change it into a FON access point. The application will be licensed under the GPL and will become part of the standard Mandriva Linux distribution. Therefore, it will be available for download and integrated into the CDs and DVDs of the Mandriva Linux distribution.
Furthermore, FON and Mandriva agreed to develop a partnership for the distribution of FON WiFi acess points (FONeras) in France and abroad, starting in October 2006.
By signing this agreement FON intends to show its commitment to the Linux and open source community across the world.
