Cedega Signature (Community Chat...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 15:00
I've installed Mandriva PowerPack from the DVD iso.

My only sources presently are from the DVD.

When I attempt to install Cedega from the DVD, I get a warning about the package not being signed/a bad signature.

The md5sum for the DVD itself checked out so I assume that the lack of a signature is a not an issue but figured I'd ask if that was a known issue JIC.

Thanks in advance.

Mandriva 2008 Power Pack and Soundblaster XFI (x86-64 Hardware...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 15:00
Ok, I know that the Xfi drivers aren't in the 2008 edition. I have found the Tar package beta released by Creative, downloaded them, un tarred them and have it all sitting on my desktop. Now I'm stuck I cannot get Mandriva to see the drivers to run installer. Please help, I need a total dummies guide. The system won't accept ./installer as suggested inthe readme.
Please I want to hear sound in my 64 bit wonder.
Thanks

How is Cedega supposed to be run? (Community Chat...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 15:00
Hi,
After I installed the Cedega RPM from the PWP DVD, I ran it and it was asking for a Transgamer Account or Installing a Local Package. What am I supposed to do here?

Intel driver problems with 2008 (Graphics Cards...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 13:00
The screen goes blank some times for me. This is especially true when I use Crossover Office and open a new application. The screen will just go black for a second or two and then come back on. some time it flickers. The monitor power is going off and then back on which is really weird. It's almost like it's doing something to the monitor. I thought it might be the monitor, but it's relatively new, and doesn't happen unless I open a new application with Crossover.

Ive noticed this with other applications randomly as well, so I'm thinking that it might be the new 'intel' driver rather than the older i810.

I read that that an RPM might be added for video cards that are having a hard time with the new 'intel' driver. Does anyone know if it has been added? Is the package "x11-server-xi810" the driver?

Thanks.

Mandriva 2008 Powerpack+PCI-X Sil3124 Host Controller = ZERO (x86-64 Hardware...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 13:00
Hi

I am wondering if there is anyway I can get the propretary Sil3214r driver to work under Mandriva? I am using the following PCI-X multilane card with 4x port multipliers - 1 hooked off each of the 4x SATA channels:

http://www.addonics.com/products/multilane/ad4saml.asp

Under Windows XP 32/64 the Silicon Image driver is great showing all 20 PM locations and one can choose to RAID or stripe or span any of the drives. It even supports hot plugging of drives (without Windows crashing!!)

Under Mandriva I see nothing on the SATA HD front with the open source Sil3124 driver (does this even support PM?? I thought it would...) ... Although I have 8x non-raided harddisks and 4x striped drives connected through the 4x port-multipliers.

The newest Silicon Image RAID/PM driver (proprietary from their website) for Linux looks out of date and is compiled against a 2.6.9 kernel (arrggg) for Redhat (arrggg).... I had a go at installing this but did not get very far (the module type wasn't supported when I tried to load it with modprobe).

All very frustrating!!

Auzentech XPlosion + Mandriva 2008 Powerpack = no sound (Sound...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 09:00
Hi All

Just asking around for advice on how to get my:

Auzentech XPlosion PCI Soundcard
C-Media CMI8770 PCI chipset (8CH audio single chip with DTS® Connect and Dolby® Digital Live Real-Time Content Encoder - not under GNU/Linux )

... working for SPDIF TOS output.

I understand that I need to use the 4.0 OSS system from other posts... The website for OSS shows that their system claims to support:
CMedia CM8338A
CMedia CM8338B
CMedia CM8738/CM8768
CMedia CMI8788

The ALSA version shipping with Mandriva picks a sound module supporting the CMedia CM8738 chipset I think... Not much happening on the audio front though ... Through the SPDIF/TOS I get nothing...

I run to problems using OSS as Mandriva 2008 seems to have all the audio modules statically linked into the kernel (is that right??) So I guess I need to rebuild the kernel to take out all the other sound modules that might interfere - right??!! Do I need to download the kernel source for Mandriva (urpmi) or is it on the Powerpack DVD?

Should I download OSS as a .tar archive and compile it against the current Mandriva kernel sources??

Sorry for all the questions but I have been using Windows for months now without touching GNU/Linux so I need to run up to speed again!!

Thanks

Robert

onboard ethernet not found for Intel 975xbx (General Hardware...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 09:00
I enter the Mandriva Control Center, click to set up a network interface, choose Ethernet, and it says "No device can be found for this connection type"

My motherboard is the Intel 975xbx. I am surprised that I would be having an issue with this board, but I am assuming I am just missing something stupid because I am rather new to Linux.

slmodemd+ungrab-winmodem... (x86-64 Hardware...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 07:00
I have a modem, chipset Smart Link. It has been working fine since Mandrake 10.1, but now, on 2008, it doesn't. The driver slmodem version 20070813 doesn't compile and so the module ungrab-winmodem. The error list is so huge I won't post it here. Looks like a kernel break, looks like some headers are missing, but I found in other links that some headers names have changed. So, I decided to install the slmodem from the rpms, but, the problem remains: though the rpms seem to install normally and may be working properly, without ungrab-winmodem the modem doesn't work. Anyone can help?!?!

2008 Upgrade Issues (Next Mandriva Linux and C...)

dim, 10/14/2007 - 05:00
Hi

I just made the mistake of Upgrading my nice Mandriva 2007.1 install to 2008. The update functionality has completely fucked my system.

The display driver cockup was fantastic: 640 by 480 pixels on my widescreen, when using the NVIDIA drivers the OS ones work but are SO SLOW. Too make it worse, MCC does not fit in 640 by 480!!!

KDE is completely buggered too, lost all mandriva themes and all of my settings.

Its a real shame really because Mandriva 2008 is nice, the other machine I installed it on had no problems at all, Did any one test the upgrade?

Time for a REINSTALL!

I have been seeding for several days now but I'm a bit concerned that I'm not doing the best I could do. When the message came around instructing us to point our bittorrent clients toward the public mirrors I was lost. What does that mean? how do I do it? I'm using the ktorrent that comes with Mandriva PWP.

USB WLAN driver (AVM Fritz) won't insmod into Mandriva 2008 (General Hardware...)

sam, 10/13/2007 - 23:00
Hi.

I've used AVM's Fritz USB Wlan stick with Mandriva 2007 with no problems at all. It's been very stable and a pleasure to use!

AVM provides a native Linux driver, which will be compiled and "insmod fwlanusb.ko" loaded into Linux. You can download the small tar.gz archiv here:
http://www.avm.de//files/cardware/fritzwlanusb.stick/linux/suse.10.2/

Please have a small look in the info.txt files (english).

However, with the new and nice Mandriva 2008, the native driver source just compiles but can't be insmod'ed anymore: When I run the ./install script as suggested in the Reademe.html inside the source package, it compiles and an "insmod fwlanusb.ko" reports the error: "wrong module format".

Since the driver's is OpenSource (I think?) : is it possible to make it work with Mandriva 2008, too?

It would be very important to me.
Because unfortunately, with the NDISwrapper and the newest and oldest WinNT driver for the USB stick, it just basically works, but every time I run a GUI intensive window from a remote X Server, like Firefox etc., the WLAN connection crashes and I've to reboot the Mandriva PC.
So I can't use the PC anymore. I would have to fall back to Mandriva 2007...

Thanks in advance for any help.

No gnome live one cd? (Community Chat...)

sam, 10/13/2007 - 21:00
Hi there,

Just downloading 2008 now at 230 kbs (!) and really looking forward to trying it out! I have to say that I was [b:28bebd5e67]very[/b:28bebd5e67] impressed with 2007.1 and from what I've read on here, 2008 should be just as good - if not better!

Just one question though - looking through the download pages and also the posts on here announcing its release and I can't find any reference to a gnome Mdv one cd. Is the gnome version therefore only available with the "free" edition and the powerpack now?

If so, that is a shame because a have to say I rather liked the gnome setup. I do intend to buy the powerpack at some point so I am not too worried but would rather take 2008 for a test run with gnome instead of kde before doing so!

Thanks!

Ash

[2008.0 DVD I586] camera bug (General Hardware...)

sam, 10/13/2007 - 21:00
Hi,
Prior to report a Bug may I expose a problem with a camera ?
With 2007.1 I never had a problem for the recognition of my FE190 olympus, with 2008.0
I have a error message from konqueror saying that ''could not read file error writting to port''
I had the idea to make a kind of install for that specific camera though Control Center, but that model isn't listed.
Should I report ?

printerdrake freezing when trying to add printer (Printers and Scanners...)

sam, 10/13/2007 - 21:00
I just installed Mandriva one 2008. I log in to hardware configuration then add printer. cups service says it cannot start, which happened on spring 2007.1, no worries there, in that build I clicked add printer and it added my hp officejet 5100.

On 2008 the printerdrake screen takes a long time to load then when it loads i click on add printer and it just hangs, never adding the printer and the graphic interface goes blank. Any known issues or workarounds for adding this printer. I am very new to linux sorry if i am unclear.

Help is appreciated
