Description : Kernel is the fundamental component of Linux system, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Internet. It has all of the features of a modern, fully fledged operating system. The Linux kernel is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
Mandriva support : One of the key kernel hackers, Jeff Garzik, was hired by Mandriva in October 1999. Mandriva provides all the financial and technical support to Jeff Garzik in order to facilitate his continuous contributions to the kernel development for the whole Linux community. Philip Rumpf and Juan Quintela have also been hired to participate in the kernel development.
